An approximate timeline showing what is being done and at what stage of the project.

Bell Ringing Training

Bell ringing training takes place in Little Paxton - new ringers welcome!

Contracts

Place contracts with the bell foundary, electricians and CCTV systems contractors.

Volunteers Needed

Local community asked for volunteers to help with activities.

Heritage Lottery Fund Signage

Heritage Lottery Fund sign positioned in churchyard.

Lighting & Power Installation

Installation of lighting and power circuits in the bell tower, stairway and chambers.

20th - 29th September 2017

Quarter Peal Rung

Quarter Peal is rung successfully on five bells.

Great Paxton Bells Signage

Great Paxton Bells sign positioned above Heritage Lottery Fund sign in churchyard.

New Bells Website

A new Great Paxton Church Bells website is launched.

Visits to Great Paxton School

Talks to children at Great Paxton School including a film about casting a bell and demonstration of ringing using a model bell.

6th March 2018

5th April 2018

Final ringing of existing bells

Final ringing of the five existing bells.

Removal of existing bells

The five existing bells are removed from the tower and transported to the bell foundry.

9th - 12th April 2018

13th April - June 2018

Bell tower work begins

Work begins to repair the belfry floor, bell frame and remaining fittings.

Casting of the new bell

The new, 6th treble bell is cast including a visit to the bell foundary for volunteers and school children.  The existing tenor bell is also recast.

Auction of bell parts

An auction of bell parts no longer required following restoration is held in the church.  Viewing from 10am; auction starts at 2pm.

Installation of new and restored bells

The restored bells will be returned and refitted along with the new, 6th bell in the repaired and strengthened belfry.  Volunteers needed!

June/July 2018

15th July 2018

Open Church

Celebration of the restoration of the bells with an Open Garden event at Paxton Place - bell information displays informing the community.

Testing of restored bells

Foundry Ringers will test the restored bells during the week.

July 2018

Summer 2018

Quarter Peal with 6 bells

Quarter Peal to be rung on six bells.

CCTV Installation

A new CCTV system will be installed to provide a live feed of the bells being rung.

Autumn 2018

9th September 2018

All Ages Service

Launch of CCTV system allowing the bells to be observed ringing from the safety  of the church nave.  An All Ages Service will be held at 10:45am with refreshments available.

Full Peal with 6 bells

A Full Peal on six bells rung over 3 hours.

Autumn 2018

18th October 2018

Bells Restoration Celebration

Celebration of the restoration of the bells with Bishop Stephen - bells will be rung and refreshments served.  7pm - all welcome.

Bell Ringing Training

Bell ringing training to be started again in Great Paxton and the bells can ring out again - the future is secured.
